Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year around the nation are local, personal disasters like home fires. Disaster Action Teams (DAT) provide emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help families begin the process of recovery. The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member:
- Quickly responds to single-family fires in teams of two or more to ensure those impacted have a safe place to stay, food to eat, clothes to wear and their life sustaining medication.
- Helps local families cope with emergencies. When disaster strikes—whether it’s a home fire, flood or storm—your neighbors need you. You’ll be there to provide comfort, shelter and support to those experiencing disasters in your community.
