Who We Are

The Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum, located at Columbus Municipal Airport in Columbus, Indiana, is a heartfelt tribute to the people and history of the former Atterbury Army Air Field and Bakalar Air Force Base.

What We Do

The Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum preserves and shares the history of the former Atterbury Army Air Field and Bakalar Air Force Base by honoring the service of military and civilian personnel from World War II through the Vietnam era. Through restored aircraft, artifacts, and exhibits on glider pilots, Tuskegee Airmen, special operations squadrons, and Indiana’s role in aviation, the museum educates visitors of all ages about the importance of this history. Operated entirely by dedicated volunteers, it also serves as a place of remembrance with spaces like the Lewellen Memorial Chapel and events that honor veterans and their families. With free admission, community programs, and a restoration center that keeps historic artifacts and aircraft alive, the museum ensures that the stories of courage, sacrifice, and innovation continue to inspire future generations.
