Join United Way of Bartholomew County as a Tax Preparer through our Free Tax Program. Help qualified Bartholomew County residents receive free income tax filing and maximize their financial returns, contributing to the overall financial well-being of our community.
Role Overview: As a Tax Preparer you'll play a vital role in assisting individuals and families with their tax returns, ensuring they receive the support they need to successfully completely their tax return.
Key responsivities:
- Verify Paperwork: Confirm the all necessary documentation is in the file for tax filing.
- Review Intake Forms: Go over the intake forms submitted by taxpayers to ensure accuracy.
- Input Data: Enter taxpayer information accurately into the online filing system.
Training:
- Format: Online training at your own pace beginning in December. In person training as needed.
- Completion: All training must be finished by end of January 2026.
- Certification: Upon finishing the training, you will need to take an open-book online test in Standard of Conduct, Intake Interview, and Advanced Topics to receive certification.
Commitment:
- Timeframe: Tax Preparers are required to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per week from February 2 to April 15, 2026.
- Flexibility: Schedules are flexible, and you won’t be sitting directly with clients, allowing you to work at your convenience.
