Who We Are
Mission: To foster a caring community for animals by providing shelter, advancing animal welfare, promoting the bond between animals and humans through innovative programs, education and service.
Bartholomew County Humane Society is a shelter serving Bartholomew county residents who live outside the city limits of Columbus. BCHS provides humane support to abandoned and homeless animals and enables people to become responsible pet owners through education and awareness building.
What We Do
Our shelter shelters animals brought to us by the Bartholomew Co. Animal Control officers and the public. We also offer Thor’s Pet Food Pantry to residents of Bartholomew Co. who are struggling to provide food to their dogs and cats. In addition to our adoption programs, we have a foster care program, low cost spay/neuter transport options (as space becomes available) and a robust volunteer crew who help in nearly every aspect of our work!
BCHS usually has about 120 animals onsite and dozens in foster care. We spend a lot of time cleaning, but also socializing the animals so they have both physical and emotional health care during their stay. Our shelter team subscribes to providing The 5 Freedoms to the pets in our care! You can be part of providing that level of care to our shelter pets now too!
